Ghost Wineries for Hallowine
What is a “ghost winery” and are they haunted?
Ghost wineries were wineries that existed in America in the 1800s and early 1900s, but shuttered their operations and closed down during the triple threat of phylloxera, the Great Depression, and Prohibition. Those original wineries that regained + rebuilt operations after prohibition ended are commonly referred to as ghost wineries, and Flora Springs is one of them! Ghost winery status doesn’t necessarily mean haunted, although there have been a fair amount of encounters with spirits at the winery… so who knows 👀
Each year, they bottle a small amount of 100% estate grown Malbec in honor of their long and illustrious history. Notes of black cherry, blackberry, red currant, coffee grounds, tobacco and a little bit of spice on the nose. This is a fantastic bottle for pairing with a hearty Halloween meal and a ghost movie like Poltergeist 👻
