Why you should be opening a Rhône Blend for V Day
Updated: Mar 2, 2021
Roses are red, so is my wine. I’m not finishing this poem... I don’t have time. 🍷 🌹💕
There are so many wonderful bottles of wine I could tell you to open for Valentine’s Day, but I think I’ll take this opportunity to express why you should consider seeking out a Rhône blend for hearts day.
I have always been the kind of girl that wanted a bold Napa Cab Sauv for Valentine’s Day.. until I realized that Rhône style blends are where it’s AT! Rhône style blends are usually predominantly made up of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault, although there are over 20 grapes that are traditional to that region and can be used in blending.
To me, there is nothing more romantic on the palate than a fantastic glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. There also plenty of blends from other Côtes du Rhône regions that can be slightly lower in price point with great quality.
Even if French wine isn’t your style though, or you’re just getting into wine, I’m here to remind you that you can also find wonderful Rhône style blends from California. Some of my absolute favorite GSMs have come from the Central Coast and will blow your mind.
Who are your favorite GSM producers?
