Wine Pairing at Giordanos Pizza

Let’s talk about pizza and wine 🍷 🍕
One of my absolute favorite pairings, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with a great glass of vino paired with that cheesy, bready goodness. Whether you’re making pizza at home, or headed out to your favorite pizza spot, it’s good to know what varietals pair well with different kinds of food.
I stopped by one of my favorite pizza places Giordanos Orlando for a fantastic meal, paired with their house wine selection from Round Hill (which is owned by Rutherford ranch winery) Have you had pizza from Giordanos before?
Here were the pairings I picked for my meal:

- Caesar Salad is all about the dressing, and can be tricky to match depending on how overwhelming the garlic and anchovy are. Pair this with a nice light and acidic white, like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc!

- The batter on this fried Calamari goes effortlessly with Chardonnay. This particular Chard has a nice acidity to it with a touch of oak, vanilla and butter, which paired very nicely with the crispy calamari.

- I paired the chicken pesto pizza with a glass of Merlot. Normally I would pair pesto with a dry white wine, but with the addition of the chicken and tomato on this pizza I wanted to try pairing with Merlot, which actually ended up being a great match. This had smooth tannins with a low acidity, making it easy drinking and balanced nicely with the flavors of the pesto.

- I of course had to pair Cabernet Sauvignon with the meat and more meat deep dish pizza 😍 Sausage, pepperoni, salami and bacon layered high with sauce and SO MUCH CHEESE! The Cab Sauv paired perfectly with the acidity in the tomato sauce and the sausage and salami in the pizza.
